Vishal Singh Rebari

Vishal Singh Rebari is a double bassist, composer, and bandleader whose music is driven by curiosity, interaction, and a search for new sonic possibilities. As both a bassist and composer, he creates music that balances carefully crafted compositions with the spontaneity of improvisation. A graduate of the Jazz Bachelor program at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, Vishal has developed his artistic voice through performances and collaborations across Europe and India. In the Netherlands, he has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival,Laren Jazz Festival, and LantarenVenster, including performances with the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, as well as at various clubs and festivals across Europe.

In India, Vishal has worked as a professional session musician, recording bass with Prateek Kuhad and performing on MTV Unplugged – Season 7, alongside work across jazz, contemporary music, and studio projects.

In 2026, Vishal was awarded the Erasmus Jazz Prize, recognizing his work as an emerging voice in contemporary jazz. As the leader of the V.S.R. Quintet, Vishal presents original compositions shaped by strong melodic ideas, open improvisation, and a highly interactive ensemble approach. The quintet's music explores the space between composition and spontaneous musical interaction, with each musician contributing to a constantly evolving collective sound.

Beyond jazz, Vishal's work extends into songwriting, film, and other forms of contemporary music. He released his pop-folk single “Aayo Re Jogi” and has composed music for short films as well as the independent feature film "Mein Hoon Lallu Singh". His work across different musical contexts reflects a broad approach to composition and a curiosity for exploring different forms of musical storytelling.

Vishal's music is ultimately about connection: between musicians, between composed and improvised moments, and between the music and its audience.

Vishal is currently working on his debut album, featuring original compositions developed through his work with the V.S.R. Quintet. Alongside his work as a performing musician, he is also expanding his work as a composer for film, developing music for independent films and visual projects. He is also available for private lessons and music education, working with students of different levels and helping them develop their musicianship, technique, and understanding of music.
